Meet Dale Martenson – AKC National Championship NOHS Toy Group Judge
1. Can you describe your reaction to receiving an invitation to judge the National Owner-Handled Series Toy Group at the AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin?

2. What does it mean to judge this singular event at the only all-breed show organized directly by the American Kennel Club?
Dale Martenson: To be included in AKC’s only all-breed show is a wonderful acknowledgement of my 40-plus-year commitment as a breeder of AKC dogs.
3. In your opinion, how does this show differ from other AKC events?
Dale Martenson: The worldwide exposure certainly makes it a special event.
4. What were you thinking or feeling moments before you stepped into the center of the NOHS Group ring?
Dale Martenson: I’m always very proud of the journey for each NOHS handler to end up in Orlando.
5. Was there a heightened energy coming from the dog and owner-handled teams? Did you feel the energy of the spectators?
Dale Martenson: Absolutely, you could feel a sense of accomplishment and everyone watching could see the dogs they had followed all year.
6. How challenging was this assignment? Can you share your selection process?
Dale Martenson: Competition was steep and included dogs I awarded top honors to in various regions, all coming together. My process involves comparing each to their Breed Standard and how they measure on the day.

Dale Martenson: By virtue of qualifying for the AKC National Championship they are all winners!
8. Are there specific ways in which the NOHS furthers the cause of purebred dogs?
